NAS 10 Questions with Papi Naranja

𝟭. Where are you from and what is your hobby?


We are from Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Music is our work and hobby at the same time, because we play covers in hotels, wedding, bars, etc..


We have a few Hobbies such as:

ALFRED: listening to music (all the Time), Watching baseball, hitting The gym, I go a lot to the beach .. a lot, and lots of off-roads trips.

DANIEL: Gardening.

BETO: Jam with Friends, Soccer, Muay-Thai, Surf & Video Games


𝟮. How did your get into music?


ALFRED: Music got me first.. I always been a poet, my father is a Journalist, writer and poet so I inherited a little bit from him, through the university one of my best friend who is also a musician, thought that I was a good fit to rap and write music for his Funk Band.. So I did it, it has been a beautiful journey.


DANIEL: When i was 4 my mom had a guitar (which i broke) and i was "composing" tunes at that time, since then i'm involved somehow in music.


BETO: Once while on vacation, my uncle and his friends started a rock cover band, and I was very impressed. When my vacation ended, I took all my savings and bought a guitar, a year later I started my own band.



𝟯. Who are your biggest influences?


ALFRED: Merengue and Erotic Salsa from the 80's and mid 90's Latin Funk, Calle 13.

DANIEL: Bossa Nova and their creators.

BETO: Dominican Music, 8 bits Music from Video Games and Cinema Music.


4. What are your goals in the music industry?


Share with people around The World what Does it feel to be an islander coming from Dominican Republic, specifically from Punta Cana and Share our concept of bringing back the sound of that old Merengue mixed with Electro Lo - Fi, Show A new and modern way to dance Merengue and Pambiche, keep playing on stages or at studios for the rest of our life and Diverging what we listen on the radio and tv on the daily life.



5. If you could choose a location to perform at, what would it be?

BETO: At The Moon !


DANIEL: Viña del Mar, Fyre Festival


ALFRED: Just like we phrase in our song (El Cañaveral) "our sound don't mind the race nor the ethnicity" we don't mind the location as long as there's people willing to spread love, dance and feel the music.


6. What is your all-time favorite song?


ALFRED: "Paula C" by Rubén Blades. This song is an eternal delirium of a women who left her path's in a mens life.


7. Most embarrassing moment?


ALFRED: I was on stage rapping and I was hungry.. and started to improvise about food..


DANIEL: I was caught stealing a lighter from a department store. Im still embarrassed.


BETO: I was Playing in a bar Outdoors, and a Ghetto Guy took the singer microphone and scream: I got no Drugs!, but when I look to my surroundings, there where 4 Big cops of DNCD (dominican DEA) and grab him in the middle of the stage, you know they throw all our instruments, I stayed frozen the whole time.


8. Proudest accomplishment?


ALFRED: I host weddings and I love it!. Looking forward to merge Papi Naranja into a Wedding band.


DANIEL: Im really good at Shibari Bondage, and I, sometimes, secretly train with circus acrobats


BETO: I love Japanese culture and I can cook the best Tostones (Fry plantain) you will ever try.


9. What is something about you that might surprise someone who knows you the best?


ALFRED: I host weddings and I love it!. Looking forward to merge Papi Naranja into a Wedding band.

𝟭𝟬. What is your dream collaboration?


With the Master: Juan Luis Guerra would be an honor, Toño Rosario too, he's a true Merengue rockstar, Also internationals like Serge Gainsbourg but he is Dead, alive we would say Gorillaz
