10 More Questions With Ed Eagle

In this week's 10 questions we do things a bit differently and catch up with none other than New Artist Spotlight founder Ed Eagle.

It's been a long time since his original 10 Questions interview, so we asked him 10 brand new questions about his music, NAS and more.

Lets get into it!

Ed Eagle

For those that aren't already familiar, tell us about the music of Ed Eagle

I’d say that my solo music (I’m also the lead singer in the band 2 Odd Dogs) tends to fall into two distinct categories:

1. My originals usually either have deeply personal lyrics about mental health issues or they have broader themes about social issues. They tend to be rock or blues rock, with some other genres mixed in.

2. My covers run the gamut from rnb and soul to jazz standards to hard rock and heavy metal. They’re often songs that’s I’ve loved for years, and ones I find challenging to sing. I typically also like to bring in collaborators for them.

What are your plans for the future?

I want to perform live! My personal life and responsibilities have made finding the time for this incredibly difficult the past few years, but I’m hoping to at least play a gig or two with 2 Odd Dogs in 2026!

Are there any artists that have an influence on Ed Eagle's music that people wouldn't expect?

It’s hard to say what would surprise folks these days since I’ve really diversified my releases in the past few years. I know that people were shocked when I released covers of Stevie Wonder and George Michael because I was more of a rock and blues guy then. They are definitely two of my biggest influences as a singer.

Which of your songs are you most proud of?

'The Team'. It was my first real release, it was really well-received and it gave me confidence that I could sing and write lyrics that people could connect to. It’s nearly 6 years old now and I feel like it’s held up pretty well in hindsight.

What is your all-time favourite song by an NAS artist?

What is your all-time favourite song by an NAS artist?

This one is damned near impossible to choose since there have been sooooo many ridiculously good releases the past five years. But if I had to choose just one it would be “Bittersweet” by Elion Melody, Smoothsaylin and Motion Sickness. It’s not only a great track, it also features three of NAS’ most talented artists working together to create something beautiful in a genre that I love.

What is your favourite single/EP/Album by an NAS artist released this year?

“It’s Over” by Jane Marie and Jessica Mia. I’ve listened to it so many times. It reminds me of some of my favorite Fiona Apple tracks and it’s brilliantly performed.

If you could collaborate with any NAS artist who would it be?

I’ve been fortunate enough to collaborate with a bunch of NAS artists already, including Jane Marie, TheDamnedKirai, William Lovitt, James Hawken and Scott Shaw just in the last year alone, not to mention the work JHM and I do for 2 Odd Dogs. I love collaborating with NAS artists, so give me a shout if you think my vocals might work for a track you have!

How many instruments do you play and which instrument(s) would you like to learn?

I sing and play electric guitar, acoustic guitar and bass guitar on my songs, along with the occasional synth plugins. I’d love to learn to play piano, but what I really need to get MUCH better at is singing and playing guitar at the same time. I got into singing so long after I started playing guitar and it’s been a real challenge finding the time to practice doing both simultaneously!

What is your favourite plug-in or piece of gear and why?

Tonex is a wonderful pedal and the software that comes with it is amazing for creating guitar tones that sound incredible in the mix. It’s also an absolute steal cost-wise when you consider that even one of the great amps modeled would cost much more than the Tonex. I can’t recommend them highly enough!

If you were a superhero, what powers would you have?

The power to bring out the best in everyone you meet. I like to believe that the vast majority of human beings are genuinely good at their core, and it’s societal stressors that lead to so much greed, selfishness, violence and pain.
