𝟭. Where are you from and what is your hobby?

We are from Vienna, Austria. As we see music as our passion, it wouldn't count as a hobby, but besides music Stephanie loves the art of painting. Besides art we also enjoy an interesting book, the nature, or just a cold beer.

𝟮. How did your get into music?

We came from two different musical backgrounds. Stephanie started her way in a music school, singing in school concerts and musicals. Already before school she had a passion for song writing. She loves to put her thoughts and feelings on paper and playing with melodies and rhymes. After her exams, she became a vocal coach and started with her solo project "ELiONA", before she met Max in 2017. Max's way into music began in a garage with a bunch of friends calling themselves a punk band. From there it took a while till he made it to Vienna. Playing with his band "Die AstroKants" he was also slowly discovering other genres and started to experiment solo with his loop station. As the time came, he wanted to go all in with the music, and was looking for a second project and found Stephanie. From there on the rest is history, or lets say it in a few words: Sun State of Mind was born.

We released our first album "Window" in 2020 and now our second Single "No Pain No Gain" in January.

𝟯. Who are your biggest influences?

Many, but for example Jack White & Lianne La Havas: Jack sets himself musically and on the guitar no limits and reinvents himself again and again. Lianne is unique in her delicate but also mega powerful vocals. When it comes to looping, Tash Sultana and Dovydas are kind of our role models, they just have it 😋

4. What are you goals in the music industry?

Having a good time, or at least most of the time. As we are part of the viennese buskers project "U-Bahn-Stars" we see a lot of people (pre-lockdown) every day. So our audience there is most of the times just passing by. Making them stop, forgetting time and space for a song, or two is already all we want to achieve there. Of course, we also want to touch people with our texts, make them think and put a smile on their faces. And If we can make a living out of it, it would be great to focus fully on the music and play on all the big stages around the globe.

5. If you could choose a location to perform at, what would it be?

New York – “because there’s nothing you can’t do…” 😉 Or playing a whole festival season at all the great festivals around Europe would be nice and fun to be "on tour" with other musicians and so many different places and people all around.

6. What is your all-time favorite song?

For us there is no "all-time favourite song", there are just too many good songs out there and it would be unfair not to mention them. But thats what makes music so brilliant, there is an "all-time favourite song" for every mood.

7. Most embarrassing moment?

As buskers, we have so many embarrassing experiences out there that we just lost our shame a few years ago 😜 Best way is just to go with the flow and don't look back

8. Proudest accomplishment?

Our new song "No Pain No Gain". It was DIY project from A-Z. We wrote the song, recorded it at home due Covid and also learned to mix it by ourselves. So from now on we know that anything is possible if we put in enough effort and diligence, and that we are free to do what we want, when we want. So as we all should know: No pain, no gain 😉

9. What is something about you that might surprise someone who knows you the best?

Sometimes it happens, that we make pancakes at night and eat them before we go to sleep after a long day. Trust us, it's the best late night dinner you can get...

𝟭𝟬. What is your dream collaboration?

Jack White fore sure! Being invited to the Third Man Records headquarter and record a song together directly to vinyl. Would be such an awesome and true experience, as it is a no going back one take. You should check out this recording technique on youtube if you don't know it already 😉
