NAS 10 Questions with Dirty Toy Company

This time, we get to know Dirty Toy Company. Their track "The Chosen Ones" is now featured in the New Artist Spotlight Family of Playlists.

Band Members: Jonas is our lead singer and for the moment also our bass player. He used to play rhythm guitar, but he took over since our bass player left. We're still searching for a new bass player, but covid-19 didn't agree with that.

Then we have Remco, he plays the lead guitar, does backing vocals and is the main songwriter.

On drums we have Wouter, together with Remco they are founding members.

Last but not least myself, Tim, on keyboard/Guitar and also backing vocals. Together with Remco, I focus on publicity and social media. He's more in the picture, whereas I work more behind the scenes.

𝟭. Where are you from and what is your hobby?

We are Dirty Toy Company. A bunch of crazy rock ‘n roll freaks from good old Belgium. Apart from making kick ass music, our hobbies are having a few beers together and watching a fun movie like “The Dirt”.

𝟼. How did your get into music?

Music has always been in our soul, I guess. Some of us got into music as a little baby, growing up in a very musical household. Others discovered rock music during their rebellious teenage years. Either way, music is something we live and breathe. The urge to rock has been cursing through our veins since the day we were born. It’s what we need to stay sane.

𝟯. Who are your biggest influences?

We have a TON of influences. Our main influences are obviously those good old hard rock bands like AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses, Black Sabbath, Status Quo,.. We do love our fair share of 80’s glam metal as well. Warrant, Ratt, Poison. Those guys rule. Some heavier bands like Pantera and Lost Society definitely influence us when we feel like writing a more aggressive tune. Last but not least we enjoy a lot of current artists like Santa Cruz, CrashdiĂ«t, Bloody Heels, Yungblud, MGK,
too many to name them all!

4. What are your goals in the music industry?

Make our fans happy and meet as MANY of them as possible. Our fans mean the world to us. We just wanna write good tunes. Break the boundaries of rock ‘n’ roll. Do something that hasn’t been done before. We want to merge all the artists we listen to into a unique blend of music that goes beyond just classic rock. Our goal is to create a legacy that will be remembered after we are gone.

We also want to put Belgium back on the map when it comes to rock music. Belgium has a very weak scene, to be honest. We want to change that. We want to bring rock back to the masses and make people realise that it’s the ultimate party music and the ultimate form of self-expression.

5. If you could choose a location to perform at, what would it be?

Anywhere our fans want us to be! But if we could pick one I guess we would say Madison Square Garden. Or Graspop Metal Meeting.

6. What is your all-time favorite song?

Way too many amazing songs to choose from. Way too many. But if we had to pick one it would definitely be an AC/DC song! Probably from the Highway To Hell Album. The title track would a classic pick but “Touch Too Much” and “If You Want Blood” are amazing songs as well. Those songs are so energetic and raw. It’s like having sex and getting electrocuted at the same time. The essence of rock ‘n’ roll!

7. Most embarrassing moment?

We definitely had a few drunk moments where one of us made a fool out of themselves, on and off stage. Talking to fans and barely being able to string together a decent sentence. Forgetting lyrics, playing messed up licks or drum fills on stage. Also our singer once went up to this quite famous band who we supported that night, right before the show: “So, you guys must be Cowboys From Hell?” which totally was the wrong band name... Woops!

8. Proudest accomplishment?

Releasing our first single called “Burn You Down” and our first EP called “Stand And Fight” and getting great responses on both. Playing a festival called “Suikerrock” in our hometown in front of a huge audience of friends and fans. Growing a decent fanbase. Getting noticed by some bigger names in the game like Wildstreet and Snake Bite Whisky. The latter who we will support on their upcoming European tour.

9. What is something about you that might surprise someone who knows you the best?

We do love us some pop music! ABBA, Lady Gaga, The Weeknd, Harry Styles,
all fun! We’re very open minded when it comes to different genres of music and we don’t feel ashamed of that. Good music is good music!

𝟭𝟬. What is your dream collaboration?

That’s a rather difficult question, to be honest. It would be cool to do a collab with a huge rock name like Axl Rose or Ozzy Osbourne. But maybe that wouldn’t be the most interesting creation, musically speaking.

We think a collab with a more unexpected artist like Yungblud or a pop artist like The Weeknd could result in some very unique and interesting songs! We are all for pushing boundaries and keeping rock music fresh and innovative.
