Okay, letā€™s get into the Ten questions for Dorian Whisper.

I grew up in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, but have lived all over the planet for my work and consider myself a World Citizen these days. I have two serious hobbies: Music and Music.

šŸ®. š—›š—¼š˜„ š—±š—¶š—± š˜†š—¼š˜‚ š—“š—²š˜ š—¶š—»š˜š—¼ š— š˜‚š˜€š—¶š—°/š— š˜‚š˜€š—¶š—° š—£š—暝—¼š—±š˜‚š—°š˜š—¶š—¼š—»?

My parents love and make music; my mom sings and my dad plays the harmonica. And my older sister plays the piano and violin. So, I grew up with music.

My influences come from a wide range of musical traditions. Here are a few in order of how I discovered them: Pink Floyd, Genesis, George Gershwin, The Cure, Ella Fitzgerald, Erik Satie, Paco de Lucia, Sting, Johnny Guitar Watson, Tom Jobim, Miles Davis, etc.

šŸ°. š—Ŗš—µš—²š—» š—±š—¶š—± š˜†š—¼š˜‚ š—Æš—²š—“š—¶š—» š—ŗš—®š—øš—¶š—»š—“ š—ŗš˜‚š˜€š—¶š—°?

I started playing the piano when I was eight years old and picked up the guitar when I was twelve. It started with classical music on both instruments, but soon played covers from the radio with friends. Guitar becoming my preferred instrument, I played in several bands, accompanied amateur flamenco dancers, and taught guitar to beginners to earn some extra money during my student days. I picked up singing in a choir, did close harmony and sang lead vocals in a jazz band.

I have always enjoyed writing music, but only started releasing it recently, and I am interested to see where my music finds its audience. I am not yet sure where it is heading, but I am incredibly grateful for the supportive community here at NAS and my faithful listeners.

šŸ². š—œš—³ š˜†š—¼š˜‚ š—°š—¼š˜‚š—¹š—± š—°š—µš—¼š—¼š˜€š—² š—® š—¹š—¼š—°š—®š˜š—¶š—¼š—» š˜š—¼ š—½š—²š—暝—³š—¼š—暝—ŗ š˜„š—µš—²š—暝—² š˜„š—¼š˜‚š—¹š—± š—¶š˜ š—Æš—²?

It would love to bring together the various musicians I have worked closely with from all over the world in my home town, so that I can invite my parents to the performance.

I have favorite songs in all types of genres; it would be impossible to pick just one.

During a gig, my amp gave out and we had to hook up my guitar to the singerā€™s monitor. This resulted in none of the five musicians being able to properly hear each other and had disastrous consequences. Awkwardā€¦

Referring to music, my proudest accomplishment is the studio recording of my debut EP in January 2020 :-)

Let me describe a wish that unfortunately can no longer be granted. I have always admired Toots Thielemans. Everything he played was divine, everything he did was with passion, and yet he was such a charming und humble individual. That would have been the greatest musical experience ever.
